Essential Home Furniture

Here is my current list of good places to buy essential home furniture:

Ikea:

The stuff is cheap, ya we know that, but it still is some one of the best combination of form and function ever created on a mass scale.  Not just that but this home furniture store is actually cheap.  It’s an affordable way to look cool and get everything you need from your furnishings.

Target:

Very similar to Ikea above.  The one main downfall about shopping for furniture at Target is the awfully limited selection.  Still, you can find items for your apartment or condo that are very similar to Ikea.  Target is also still the best place to shop when furnishing your dorm room.

Value City Furniture:

Finally, and I admittedly do not know if these exist throughout the country, but Value City Furniture stores are an affordable way to take a step above Ikea and Target in terms of quality.  Some of the design parts of Value City may not make your all that happy to be there, but I like it as a middle ground.

A common question that I hear is about sectional sofas.  People often feel strongly one way or another about this piece of furniture.   The main concern with sectional sofas are the massive size.  For many young professionals a sectional simply doesn’t make sense.  That said, one of my good friends has a rather large sectional sofa in a mix 1 bedroom/studio apartment and it works out great.  He has the high ceilings, however, to make a sectional sofa seem like a good idea in that type of condo.  One of the other concerns with sectional sofas is the price.  Discount sectional sofas are always available, however, and I never recommend purchasing one at retail.  Modern sectional sofas, however, are often more difficult to find.  I recommend going with a microsuede to prevent your living room looking like you have four kids and another on the way.  Sectional sofas tend to give off that vibe anyway, so sticking with something sleek is important.

Well this is the maiden post of our essential home furniture blog.  The goal of this space on the internet will be to display some modern furniture that we think is perfect for the young professional.  The emphasis will be on furnishings for apartments, houses, and condos that make sense.  Nothing too intricate or flashy, but a focus on interior design that makes your home feel like home – and look good too!  I hope that we can also offer information on discount home furniture and ways that you can save money furnishing your apartment in these tough economic times.  I will go into bedroom, kitchen, living room, and dining room furniture.  The focus will also be on online shopping.  Many people do not realized that furniture stores online are not just a viable way to preview furniture, but also to buy it.
